The Board of Trustees governs by ensuring that the policies, programs, academics, and operations are faithful to the terms of its charter, including the vision, mission, values and commitments, and that the school is a viable and healthy organization. In addition, the Board evaluates the Executive Leader annually.
Term and Qualifications
Each of the Trustees to be elected will serve a two-year term, and may serve no more than three consecutive terms.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, cannot be currently enrolled or employed at the school, cannot be related to employees of the school within the third degree of relationship, and cannot have been convicted of a felony violation.
Additionally, the Board is currently hoping to attract candidates with the following areas of experience or expertise: —Communications, especially mass communications or non-profit communications —Finance, especially accounting and financial management skills, and —Charter School Administration, especially with capital campaigns or funding initiatives
While these backgrounds are not a requirement, enthusiasm for our students and strong interpersonal and team-building skills are a must for all candidates.
We ask that every Trustee believe in and be an active advocate and ambassador for the values, mission, and vision of KAPS. Our Trustees are expected to faithfully attend all meetings of the Board and the committees on which they serve, and be prepared to contribute approximately 8-10 hours per month toward Board service, which includes: —Attending monthly board meetings, generally set for the 4th Monday of the month, beginning at 5:30 p.m., except when it falls on a holiday (2-3 hours) —Participating on a board committee (2-4 hours) —Reading materials, preparing for meetings (2 hours) —Attending events at the school, assisting with fundraising and other ambassador tasks as needed (2-4 hours), and —Attend required training courses in a timely manor.

Please note that elections and introduction of candidates will take place at our Open House on Thursday, September 4th, 5:30 p.m., so please mark your calendar to attend that evening. We will begin interviewing potential candidates immediately to prepare the slate of candidates for presentation to the KAPS community.
