Year 10 - GCSE Options Form 2020 - ROUND 3
This is the THIRD GCSE Options Form of the FOUR stage process. This form should be completed after reading the instructions below.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Starting Notes:

a. Subjects no-longer viable to offer are: GCSE English Literature, GCSE French, GCSE Statistics.

b. GCSE Music is now offered as an 'off-timetable' option (early-mornings & afternoons) as an additional (fifth) GCSE course. This is for pupils who can perform & have previous experience in music.

1. There will be more ONE more opportunity after this stage to make adjustments to choices made below. This will come in ROUND 4.

2. Please complete this form as a parent alongside your child, as a pupil of Carrickfergus Academy.

3. The Year 10 Winter Report and Year 10 - GCSE Options Booklet will be useful to read before making choices on this form. The Year 10 Winter Report have been available on SIMS Parent App from 16 January 2020 & will assist with this ROUND & ROUND 4 of this process.

4. Please enter the following details in the information requested at the beginning of the form; Parent email address, Pupil surname, pupil first name & pupil registration class.

5. Courses are again presented in FOUR OPTION BLOCKS. Please tick only ONE first choice course & ONE second choice course in each option block.

6. Subjects that are COMPULSORY & will be part of the GCSE timetable are; GCSE English Language, GCSE Mathematics, GCSE Science (Single Award), GCSE Learning for Life & Work OR GCSE Prince's Trust, Games (non-GCSE), Religious Education (non-GCSE), Careers (non-GCSE).

7. Courses selected from the FIRST CHOICE list should be different from courses selected in the SECOND CHOICE column. Do not pick the same course in each list in any of the option blocks.

8. Courses with ONE asterisk indicated (*) have similar paired courses also indicated with an asterisk. These courses are:

- Ancient History & History,
- Art & Design & Craft, Design & Construction
- Business Studies & Business Communication Systems
- Food & Nutrition & Hospitality
- Geography & Travel & Tourism

Pupils & parents are encouraged to select courses with different origins to ensure the pupil learning experience is as broad as possible, across the wide variety of courses on offer. Pupils may select combinations of paired subject above BUT should seek advice & guidance from subject staff before doing so.

9. Courses with TWO asterisks indicated (**) require the approval of the Subject Leader of that course to approve the course being selected as a choice for GCSE study. This is due to the demands & specialist nature of the course.

10. All FIRST CHOICE courses MUST be different. SECOND CHOICE courses can repeat FIRST CHOICES made as back-ups.

GCSE Music ONLY. Please add your name in the line below if GCSE Music is a course that is preferred as a fifth GCSE course. Pupils should have sound musical experience with the ability and confidence to perform musically. Parents should be aware that selecting GCSE Music requires commitment to attend early morning & end-of-school classes to complete the course.

ROUND 3 - THIS STAGE - Refinement stage - Please complete by Wednesday 19th February 2020

ROUND 4 - Final Options choices - Completed at a parent & pupil interview (involving senior staff) 2nd - 6th March 2020.
