Program participants will learn everything they need to know to dazzle an audience and wow any panel ofslam judges. Our young poets will
• study live and recorded performances of slam poets• have the opportunity to meet and interact with professional guest speakers from various disciplines• partner on a publishing project with other youth poets• learn how to craft rough drafts that are personally and socially relevant• learn how to employ valuable revision techniques• be coached on the performance of their poems by some of the best slam poets in the world• vastly improve their listening, public speaking, leadership, and community-building skills• participate a culminating event that will close out the program on the evening of July 1st.
Slam Camps instructors are Donney Rose, Desireé Dallagiacomo, and Chancelier “xero” Skidmore, along witha multitude of guest instructors. Donney Rose is a veteran performance poet and is an eight-time member ofthe Baton Rouge National Poetry Slam team. Desireé Dallagiacomo is a Pushcart prize nominee and ranked3rd at both the Individual World Poetry Slam & the Women of the World Poetry Slam. Chancelier “xero”Skidmore is the 2013 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion.General camper fee is $150, with opportunities for scholarships and sibling discounts.Slam Camp will run from June 12th to June 30th (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM), Monday through Thursday, with astudent showcase on June 30h.
Camp will take place on the grounds of LSU campus. Students will have an hour for lunch at the student union, accompanied by camp staff members at all times. (Students must purchase or bring their own lunch.)
