We are investigating whether there is sufficient interest among the children and parents of St. Paul's to form a children’s choir of 1st through 6th graders. Below is some information about the time commitment necessary to create a children’s choir that would sing 3-4 times between September and May.
1. A minimum of 10-12 children would be needed to create the choir. This ensures that there are enough voices for the singers to feel their voices supported and not feel like they are singing alone. More would be welcome, of course.
2. One one-hour long rehearsal each week from September to May is needed with the goal of singing 3-4 times in services during that period. The rehearsals would include working on musical and singing skills, learning about the church year and music in worship, as well as learning particular music for worship services.
3. Commitment to regular weekly rehearsal attendance, as well as scheduled "performance" dates in worship, is necessary to successfully prepare the children to sing choral music and to create a whole choir. In other words, there need to be enough children to sing each part if the music is to be offered successfully, and the children need to be adequately prepared so they feel confident and good about the experience.
4. One or two parent volunteers would be needed in the room each week. No musical experience necessary, just help in shepherding the children and keeping them safe.
