Are you wondering how our union and university function, and how to mobilize this knowledge to win needed raises, job security, and improved working conditions in our contract?
Do you want to engage your colleagues in union organizing, but aren't sure how to broach the subject or address their questions and concerns? Or are you a student interested in building organizing skills and demanding a more transparent and fair university for all who work, live, and learn here?
Come to Strike School! We are asking folks to attend two 1.5-hour workshops:
#1-How We Win and #2-Organizing 101. All sessions are developed and led by AAUP-AFT and URA member-organizers and union staff. We offer these at multiple days and times over 4 weeks so you can pick whatever works with your schedule (we recommend doing them in order).
These workshops are for ALL MEMBERS and interested students who want to get more involved in our contract campaign, especially (but not exclusively) department reps. The only way we will win the contract we deserve is if all of us -- grad workers, full and part-time faculty (adjuncts), staff, post-docs, AND students -- sharpen our power analysis and organizing skills. If you are nodding your head, Strike School is the place for you! See you there.
Workshop 1: How We Win: Their Power and Ours - this session will cover current contract demands of our unions, Rutgers financials, and how we can build solidarity.
Workshop 2: Organizing 101 - How to have an Organizing Conversation - this is an organizing workshop aimed at training members how to talk with coworkers about the contract campaign and move them into action.
