2021 GSAG Research and Support Award Application
GSAG is a professional organization committed to representing graduate students within the American Association of Geographers, and to supporting their advancement in the field of Geography. Awards will be made in the amount of $250 USD, and applications will be received by the GSAG Awards Committee. This award is intended to support graduate students in their research, and your graduate student experience (whether field, university, or home-based). Submission of a budget is not required.

We encourage all graduate students, masters and PhD, to apply. Preference will be given to those who have not previously received a GSAG award (inclusive of the GSAG Travel Award), and those who are underrepresented in the field of geography. Applicants do not need to attend the 2021 annual AAG conference in order to apply, but must be current members of GSAG.

Applications will be completed using Google Forms. If an alternative application submission method is needed, please contact GSAG at gsag.chair@gmail.com. Award checks will be mailed or sent via PayPal to awardees, and we anticipate notifying recipients by early April 2021.

In addition to basic demographic and institutional data, applicants will be expected to answer the following questions in their application:

RESEARCH AND IMPACT: In 300 words or less please describe how your research will contribute to advancing knowledge in the field geography. In addition, please describe your research and its broader impacts. Impacts may include theoretical contributions or scholar activism.

PERSONAL STATEMENT: We would like to get a sense of who you are. In 250 words or less, please describe your road map to geography, or a geography adjacent discipline. At what moment did you realize you wanted to pursue a topic related to geography? Please also address how your membership in AAG contributes to diversity within the field.

Applications due February 12, 2021
