The Massachusetts Chapter is governed by a nine member volunteer Executive Committee (“ExCom”), which serves are the core leadership entity in the state chapter. The ExCom is a team of volunteers who work in collaboration with the staff to advance campaigns, provide oversight and direction for our state work, and advise/support the staff to build the chapter’s capacity.
ExCom Members actively work to make organization stronger internally, and provide good governance to hold volunteers and staff accountable to our values and mission. Member responsibilities vary, but can include: helping relationships with other organizations, communities, and elected officials; collaborating with the state Chapter Director on strategies, finance, and resources; and help direct the organization to bring about the structural changes necessary to face the challenges of the intersectional climate, economic, and racial justice crises.
Members are required to attend a recurring monthly meeting. Time commitment is 1-4 hours/week, but we have a lot of work to do, and could certainly use more of your time!
ExCom members are voted on by Massachusetts Sierra Club members each fall. ExCom terms are 2 years and members may not serve more than 3 consecutive terms (6 years). The deadline to submit materials to run for the 2023 ExCom is October 1, 2022.
