James L. Harrington is a Computer Scientist in the Computer Information Science and Technology Office at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center Office of STEM Engagement. Mr. Harrington is responsible for Data Science/Machine Learning Research Outreach, Systemic STEM Reform for Professional Development, and Student Achievement in STEM. He is dedicated to creating sustained PD for teachers that builds on recent literature on teacher learning and PD. As a key member of the Office of STEM Engagement Mr. Harrington is dedicated to providing Educator Professional Development Face-to-Face Institutes in collaboration with the NASA Mission Directorates (Aerospace, Science, Human Exploration, Space Technology). Institutes are designed to infuse NASA Mission Directorate theme content into customized hands-on project learning based activities to support the mastering of real life applications of physical science and technology concepts. During his sustained career at NASA, Mr. Harrington is recognized for his dedication to educational excellence, specifically managing awards such as the Internship Program for Underserved Undergraduate and Masters Students.
