We are calling on the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) to end restrictive "Method of Operation" clauses that regulate music, DJs, live entertainment, and other forms of artistic expression as conditions of obtaining or maintaining a liquor license. New York already has extensive laws governing public safety, including occupancy limits, noise regulations, fire safety requirements, and Alcoholic Beverage Control laws. The government should not decide what types of music or entertainment licensed venues are allowed to present.

These restrictions create unnecessary barriers for small businesses, artists, cultural organizations, and the communities they serve. They also grant government agencies excessive influence over constitutionally protected expression and the cultural life of our city.
