CIERP Research Seminar: Mapping Urban Climate Change Threats in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
CIERP Research Seminar, faculty Justin Hollander, Karen Jacobsen, and Abay Yimere will speak about their research in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In this presentation, Tufts researchers will discuss their ongoing collaboration with the Woodwell Climate Research Center in Addis Abba.  This work has involved a risk analysis to understand which parts of the community are most vulnerable to climate threats. Using Woodwell’s CRC climate risk data and mapping, the Tufts team deepened our understanding of community-level climate impacts and what actions are being taken to help the city government in Addis make better policies. In our work, we went beyond city wide best practices for resiliency to consider the neighborhood level challenges and opportunities in communities where individuals and neighborhoods are most vulnerable to climate stressors, particularly informal settlements. In doing so, we offer new insights into the policies that will help policy makers tackle social justice goals while simultaneously addressing climate shocks.
