Overview of the program:
The CDC recognizes the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) as an evidence-based program that helps participants achieve lasting wellness and prevent developing type 2 diabetes. The program is led by Lifestyle Coaches who create a supportive, welcoming, and motivating environment to help participants reach their goal of increasing physical activity to 150 minutes per week and losing up to 5-7% of their body weight. Research shows that those with prediabetes who join the program can reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for those over 60). DPP is designed for people 18 years or older who have prediabetes or who are at risk for type 2 diabetes but who do not already have type 2 diabetes. There are specific eligibility requirements that interested participants must meet. To find the requirements, visit our website at https://www.laxymca.org/diabetes-prevention
