ASUW ASC Specialized Lead Application 2017-2018
The Asian Student Commission is seeking a Political Affairs Specialized Lead and a Webmaster/Multimedia Specialized Lead. These are unpaid volunteer positions scheduled to begin October 25, 2017. If selected, interviews will be conducted from October 18-23. Candidates will be notified of ASC's hiring decision by October 24.


General responsibilities include:
-2-4 hour total time commitment each week
-Attending regularly scheduled weekly team meetings
-Establishing one weekly office hour in HUB 131E
-Assisting in planning and day-of support for ASC events
-Participating in online outreach and marketing activities

---------------------- Political Affairs Specialized Lead -------------------------

Description: The Political Affairs Specialized Lead serves as an advocate for and representative of the Asian/Asian American community at UW. In this position, you will assist the ASC Director in outreach efforts surrounding issues related to policy, social justice, and legislation that affect our constituents. This is an opportunity to practice community advocacy and develop relationships in the API community both on- and off-campus.

Duties include:
-Attending weekly Senate meetings as the ASC liaison, and report back to ASC team
-Voting on and preparing legislation in the interest of ASC constituents
-Assisting initiatives to support Asian/Asian American curriculum, activities, and spaces
-Communicating with RSOs to understand constituents' needs

------------------------ Webmaster/Multimedia Specialized Lead ------------------------

Description: The Webmaster/Multimedia Specialized Lead is responsible for maintaining and updating the ASC website, as well as taking photographs during events. Experience using Wordpress and a DSLR is desired, but not required.

Duties include:
-Attending and photographing ASC events throughout the academic year
-Publishing regular blog posts, photographs, updates, and/or guest features on the website and Facebook page
-Maintaining an aesthetically pleasing website and updating information as necessary

Although these positions are unpaid, they are nonetheless valuable experiences through which you may find community, build transferrable skills, and establish value with ASUW, ASC, and RSOs. As ASC represents one of largest constituencies of the ASUW Diversity Commissions, there are more than enough opportunities to make professional and personal connections in the greater Seattle API community. Additionally, Specialized Leads will interact with a diverse population of the UW student body, celebrating Asian/Asian American culture, history, and education.
