We, the residents of St. Elmo, Flintstone and beyond, here express to the Planning Commission and City Council of Lookout Mountain, Ga., our OPPOSITION in the strongest terms to Rock City's proposal to (1) permit the installation of a gondola system from Rock City's property on Lookout Mountain to the base of the mountain and (2) amend the zoning ordinance currently applicable to Rock City's property now zoned Tourist Oriented Commercial District to loosen existing zoning restrictions.
These proposed changes would SIGNIFICANTLY increase tourist traffic and commercial activity within and around our residential community, placing additional burdens on local roads, infrastructure, police, and public services. Residents are deeply concerned about increased congestion, neighborhood safety, impacts on property values, and the long-term effect on the peaceful character, natural beauty, and quality of life of the community that would be directly impacted and impaired by this expansion/gondola.
We therefore respectfully request that Rock City's proposal be DENIED and that current zoning restrictions applicable to Rock City be strengthened to protect our residential community.
