I joined the Board in 2013, bringing specialist finance experience onto the Board as the Trust grew in size from being a small to becoming a medium-sized charity. I have served on the Finance Committee since 2013 and was honoured to be elected Deputy Chair of the Trust in 2017. I was delighted when colleagues on the Board invited me to stand for a third term. Having been part of the exciting growth of the Trust in the past six years, it would be a privilege to serve for a further three years. I trust that my wide experience of working within the charitable sector and, in particular, my knowledge of the governance and finance of charities will continue to be of benefit.

I am the Head of Science at the National Botanic Garden of Wales and a Senior Lecturer at Aberystwyth University, and have been responsible for the science programme at the Botanic Garden for the last eleven years. I have enjoyed working in the charity sector for over 19 years, and specialise in fundraising to help enable charities to achieve their missions. My experience has been with a variety of organisations including Edinburgh International Festival, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, and V&A Dundee. I currently work for the National Trust for Scotland; being a conservation charity this brings further relevance and knowledge that I hope to bring to the British Bumblebee Conservation Trust. My work has included raising funds through corporate sponsorship, Trusts, and individual giving. Presently I head up the philanthropic major gifts and Patron programmes for the National Trust for Scotland as their Major Gifts Manager. Being a fundraiser has its challenges, therefore tenacity and enthusiasm for the cause, alongside core skills and knowledge of fundraising trends is key. My enthusiasm for bumblebees is something I would relish bringing to the Trust, and I would greatly enjoy being able to apply my fundraising skills in support of their conservation. In joining the Board. I would seek to apply my skills on a strategic level, to support the core fundraising team at the Bumblebee Conservation trust.

I am the UK Chief Financial Officer for one of the “Magic Circle” law firms based in London. As a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA) and having qualified as an accountant in 2002 I can bring experience from many years working in accountancy. One key aspect of my role is to engage both finance professionals and non-finance professionals in making complex financial decisions for the firm. Originally from Hampshire, I return regularly to the Southampton area although now living in London with my cocker spaniels. I enjoy gardening and spending time in the countryside, hence my interest in making a practical contribution to a charity which is focused on bumblebee conservation. I am also a trustee of Dancers’ Career Development, a UK registered charity which supports professional dancers in transition to other careers.
