Tufts Alumni Pledge to Withhold Donations

I pledge to withhold any donations which are directly or indirectly used to grow the Tufts University Endowment until the Board of Trustees commits to divest from the top 200 publicly-traded fossil fuel companies. Investments in the fossil fuel industry conflict with my values, and with the stated mission and values of the University.

The Board’s refusal to address the moral and material implications of the endowment’s investments reflects poor judgement and a failure of leadership. While acknowledging that fossil fuels have played a large role in human development, the benefits of continued investment are now clearly outweighed by the costs, and renewable energy is a clear, viable alternative. Tufts University stands for active citizenship, and global leadership. Our Board and endowment must live up to these values.

*We encourage Tufts Alumni to donate directly to Scholarship funds and to student groups that make Tufts the special experience it is for all of us.
