This survey, initiated by the NETSOB working group on management practices to protect and preserve soil biodiversity, aims to gather information and examples of current projects or studies on best practices and other land management systems applied to soil and their effects on soil biodiversity.
The term ‘best practice’ denotes one that: 1) is attainable across a large set of soil types, ecoregions, and land management regimes; 2) describes the mechanism by which the best practice seeks to operate, such that 3) it is both attainable in action and maintains the desired land use goals and is therefore sustainable as a practice in the long-term as well as 4) permanently enhancing soil biodiversity and preventing soil biodiversity loss. General approaches to obtain these goals integrate environmental as well as sociopolitical and economic factors into land management systems.
Participation in this survey will help identify, explain, and demonstrate the outcomes of these best practices on soil biodiversity and ecological function and provide a regional perspective on the successes and challenges of these management systems.
The information collected from this survey will be used to identify and document case studies of management practices that help promote or conserve soil biodiversity. We will follow up with the authors of selected surveys to publish case studies.
Join us in promoting soil biodiversity and be #partoftheplan in celebration of #biodiversityday.
