Week 439. #BeatPlasticPollution: Clean Ocean, Clean River, Clean Forest, Community Development, Circular Economy. (Week-439)
Plastic Pollution is a global environmental problem. About 8 million metric tons of plastic is littered into the ocean annually (equivalent to one truck every minute) and it is expected that the littering will increase to twice by 2025. By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish by weight.

We must #BeatPlasticPollution and get #CircularEconomy in our lives. Reduction of garbage, cleaning of garbage, training people to get circular economy in their lives is the key to tackle these problems. Solid and liquid waste needs to be handled responsibly.

Every week Afroz Shah along with hundreds of volunteers do their bit by

- Cleaning Dana Pani beach, Versova Beach, SGNP Forest & River Mithi.
- Training people living in the human-ocean conflict zone and on the banks of River Mithi to get Circular Economy in their lives.
-Training people living in the human-animal conflict zone at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali to get Circular economy in their lives.
- Implementing the principle of 4 Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle and spreading the idea of no littering amongst the community.
- Cultivating and spreading awareness on becoming zero garbage households.
- Involving students and young leaders to do what volunteers do every week.
- Involving plastic industries in implementing Extended Producer’s Responsibility (EPR).

In addition to this, Afroz Shah and his team also create a sense of belonging in the hearts and minds of people by engaging citizens and students to beat plastic pollution and suggest ways for a circular economy. This has been the constant work every week for the past 8 years.

My Earth, My Oceans, My Rivers, My Lake, My Forest.
