My name is Kady Francis and I am currently an undergraduate in Psychology at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). As part of my undergraduate research, I am conducting a study and would like to invite you to take part. Before you agree, it is important for you to understand what the study involves and why it is important. I am happy to answer any questions you may have at any time so feel free to contact me (my contact details are provided at the end). Please take as much time as you need to read this document and if you are happy to agree to participate, a consent form is provided on the next page for you to tick.
The aim of the study is to examine toileting problems in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) between the ages of 5 to 17 years. We are interested in understanding the relationship between toileting problems and gastrointestinal symptoms, sleep problems, quality of life and adaptive behaviour. Even if your child does not have toileting problems, you are still invited to take part as your information can tell us a lot about why these symptoms present in some children and not in others. If you wish to participate in this study, you are asked to complete the following questionnaire online.
Your responses to the online questionnaire are completely confidential. Your responses will never be shared
Your child scores will not be reported individually. Overall results from the study will be reported for research purposes only. I am under the direct supervison of my academic supervisor Dr. Geraldine Leader. We aim to publish the findings of this research in an academic journal. If you leave your email details I will be happy to email the article to you.
Thank you for participating in this research.
