What is the Student Organization Affiliate Member Program at the GSC?
The Student Organization Affiliate Member Program was established in 2013 to assist UT Austin LGBTQIA+ and Feminist/Women’s student groups connect to the Gender and Sexuality Center in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement and receive resources and support for their programming.
How can a student group become an affiliate?
Groups interested in becoming an affiliate are welcome to apply to participate in the program. All student groups with programs and main focus that are in direct alignment with the mission and values of the GSC are eligible to apply. We accept groups who main missions are about supporting LGBTQIA+ and women students at UT Austin.
What happens once my organization applies to be an affiliate at the GSC? The GSC will follow up with you once the professional staff has reviewed the application and has had time to discuss, typically within 2 weeks-one month of application, depending on staff availability.
If the application is approved, student groups will have access to the following:
Inclusion in the GSC on-campus resource lists
Promotion of events on social media and GSC weekly newsletter
Priority reservation of GSC conference room during business hours
GSC staff advisor
Storage cabinet space in the GSC
Potential for program co-sponsorship with the GSC
Inclusion in GSC orientation program
Tabling at GSC events
Listing on GSC website
Flyering in the GSC
Marketing materials at Lavender Graduation and other GSC events
What are the requirements to become a Student Organization Affiliate Member?
Applying to the program
Attendance at GSC Student Leadership Retreat
Meeting at least once a semester with GSC staff
Organizational programming must be in alignment with GSC mission and vision (public narrative of group, not individual action)
