PRODUCTION LAB OVERVIEW & ACCESS PROCEDURES

What is the NYU Production Lab?

The NYU Production Lab is an arts incubator whose mission is to help the next generation of creatives design and launch thriving careers.

How do I know if my event is a good fit for the NYU Production Lab?

The Lab prioritizes events involving the arts (ranging from theater, to filmmaking, to music and dance). The main space hosts approximately 70 people comfortably. Food and drink may be served with prior permission. Guests are responsible for cleanup and returning the space to its original state. For insurance reasons, the Lab cannot serve as a filming location. Please be as descriptive as possible in the form below, so that we can assess what can be explored; we are open to making the Lab a flexible space.

Will the Production Lab run your event?

While there will be a representative from the Lab at your event, you will need to provide staff to run the event from preparation, set up through cleanup. You must also provide 1-2 volunteers to check in / direct guests at the front (street level) door throughout the event. We are happy to discuss further in detail.

Does it cost money to use the Lab space?

We ask that events that are not partnerships with the Lab provide a cross department contribution to the Lab to help underwrite the budget for the events. We are happy to work out what amount may be appropriate based on the event.

Who can access the Production Lab?

Generally, ONLY NYU-badge holders and NYU alumni with Alumni cards and their guests are permitted at the Lab. As of Fall 2022, all must ALSO display a valid Violet Go pass.

If your event involves NON-NYU guests, we may not be the best choice for you, due to the university's stringent COVID-19 protocols and the administrative measures required to approve guest access: https://www.nyu.edu/life/safety-health-wellness/coronavirus-information.html

What A/V capabilities does the Lab have?

The Lab has a cinema projector, surround sound system, wireless microphones, and movable seating with optional table-desks for up to 70 guests. We recommend visiting the lab in person to understand its technological capabilities. All tech and A/V capabilities are provided at the discretion of the lab on a case by case basis upon request.

What is an Alumni card and how do alums get them?

NYU alums can apply for a netID (required for room bookings at the Production Lab) and alumni card here.
