McKinney-Vento 101 Training: Supporting students experiencing homelessness
Richmond is the city with the second highest eviction rate in the country. Families’ health and economic stability continue to be impacted by the pandemic. Richmond lacks adequate resources to address evictions and housing instability. Unfortunately, this means RPS families will experience housing instability and homelessness this school year.

Students in housing transition have higher rates of absences and suspensions, and lower test scores than their peers. Without intentional intervention, students will suffer academically. By working in partnership with families, schools, and the community, students' attendance and on-time graduation rates can improve!

It is important that all RPS staff working with children and families know 1. how to identify students experiencing homelessness and housing instability and 2. how to connect them to supports within RPS.

Please watch this 20 minute video on supporting students experiencing homelessness. Then take the quiz to document your attendance. Proof of attendance will be emailed to you after submitting the quiz.

Please contact the RPS Center for Families in Transition (C-FIT) at cfit@rvaschools.net or 804-780-6288 with questions or to refer a student for services.
