Time: 10am-12pm
Venue: Blackrock Education Centre, Kill Avenue, Dun Laoghaire. (map at

This session is aimed at community and voluntary organisations who have an interest in, or concerns about, how urban planning is organised and how it is that they might engage with it to positively impact on future developments and minimise negative impacts of unwanted development.

The session will be led by Senan Turnbull who is a Community Development specialist with a background in planning. His emphasis will be in bringing participants through the legal and operational processes on which all building development is based, always with the objective of assisting community activists to better understand the processes and structures through which they must work to achieve better planning outcomes.

The session will cover -
Key legislative underpinning of planning,
How the County Development Plan is created,
How to engage with a specific planning application,
What’s different about large-scale (infrastructure) projects
The role of the Councillors,
What An Bord Pleanála does, and
How community representatives can, through the PPN, become more involved in defining the future shape of the area.
