2021-22 Homework Extension Sign-up
Parmalee encourages first through fifth grade students to participate in at least one homework extension project during the course of the school year. Projects are optional for kindergarten students. Students may select one or more of the following projects: Reflections, Science Fair, Oral Interpretation and Young Writers Conference. Here is a brief description of each.

Choose your favorite art form to address the theme "I Will Change the World By..." in this year's PTA Reflections contest. It is a national contest that celebrates art and literacy. Students can complete works in writing, photography, music, dance, painting and more. Check official rules on the PTA website. DUE middle of October 2021. Exact due date and submission details to be announced soon.

The Oral Interpretation Festival is a long-standing tradition at Parmalee Elementary. Students have an opportunity to recite poetry or literature selections in front of an audience. Poem/literature text is to be submitted by November 1, 2021, memorized and will be recited before judges on November 19, 2021. Additional details including grade/age level requirements for poem length will be provided in the coming weeks. DUE November 19, 2021.

An inquiry-based science or engineering project to be entered into the PTA Science Fair following their required guidelines (information packets will be sent home in December.) Projects DUE at the end of January, 2022. (Exact dates are to be chosen based on the dates of the Mountain Area Science Fair (MASF), to which our winners advance.)

The Mountain Area Young Writers Conference is held in the spring each year. Students share published work with others and interact with guest authors. This is a one-time, evening event in which children will be expected to participate and parents are required to attend with their children. It will be hosted by a local elementary school and will take place on a Thursday evening from 6-8:30pm. DUE April, 2022.
