Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the BEST (and only) graduate/professional A Capella Group here at Yale. We are so excited to have you sing for us!
Auditions this year will be held in the Watson Center (60 Sachem St.), room A30. A Yale ID should provide access to the main entrance on Sachem St. Please contact us if you are unable to get in the building!
What to expect for the audition:
The audition consists of 10-15 minutes of different musical exercises. These include range exercises, pitch matching, sight reading, solo singing, group singing, and/or beatboxing demos if you are auditioning as a beatboxer. The exercises are designed for you and us to get to know each other as musicians.
Some components involve reading music and sight-singing in Western music notation, although they are not compulsory for a successful audition! We encourage all singers with variable levels of skill and experience to audition for us.
To do for auditionees:- Please prepare a one-minute solo of your choice (generally a verse and a chorus of a song), ideally from Western popular music repertoire. You do not need to memorize it, but there will be no accompaniment.
- If you are auditioning as a beatboxer, please also prepare 30 seconds of a percussive passage to demonstrate the range of your skills in addition to your singing solo. There will be no accompaniment.
- If you already signed up for an audition slot but cannot make it, please let us know and cancel your sign up so we have more spots for other auditionees.
