You are cordially invited to attend LILAC’s final professional development and networking event of the 2022-23 school year. Please join us and fellow colleagues from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Captain Bill’s Restaurant, located at 122 Ocean Avenue, Bay Shore, NY 11706. For additional directions, please call Captain Bill’s directly at (631) 665-6262. A three-course lunch will be served. During this professional development and networking event, we will be honoring the local New York State English Council Educators of Excellence and our Kenneth Gambone Writing Contest winners.
Our featured presenter is local author, Gina Mingoia, who will share her experiences, inspirations, and the power of writing as a path toward healing through her discussion, “On Perseverance, Writing, and Healing.” Ms. Mingoia is a native Long Islander and a graduate of Shoreham-Wading River High School, St. Joseph’s College (BA), and Long Island University (MA). She is now a PhD student at Stony Brook University, a professor of English at St. Joseph’s University New York, and the founder of Lightning Tower Press, a small publishing company. Her collection of poetry, The Dust Settles: Grieving through Poetry and Prose, was published through Lightning Tower Press in 2022.
We hope you will join us to celebrate our talented student writers and local NYSEC award recipients, to be inspired by Ms. Mingoia’s presentation, and to exchange instructional ideas with colleagues from across Long Island. Pricing for this event will be $45.00 for LILAC members and $50.00 for non-members. Please complete this registration form and mail your check or pay with cash or check at the door.
