SF Flow Show 2026 - Performer Application
The San Francisco Flow Show is a 3 night black box theater production running from March 27th to April 29th, 2026 at Dance Mission Theater with tech rehearsal on Thursday, March 26th

The Flow Show provides committed flow artists with a public-facing, professional venue for sharing their work. The show broadens the perception of flow arts by showcasing unique and inspiring work in our field and contributing this work to the broader San Francisco Bay Area cultural landscape.

We're seeking visions for solo, duo, and group routines roughly 2-5 minutes in length to be developed over the next several months. While we prefer supporting the development of new work, we will consider artists looking to further develop and dive deeper into existing work as well.

This application is due by October 29th at midnight. Applications received after October 29th will be considered on a case-by-case basis, as needed. Applicants should hear back from us by November 10th.

The Flow Show is a labor of love for the flow arts and a desire to share this art form widely. This year, Amy Wieliczka will be producing the show alongside Kai Sosceles, Erol Efendioglu and a team of organizers from the Bay Area Flow Arts community.  The SF Flow Show is supported by Fund the Flow Arts, a nonprofit organization seeking to present and promote Flow Arts globally.

Our Process

To support the development of new acts and new performers, we have a 6 month process and lots of resources to offer:

November 10: Initial Application Responses - cast provisionally approved, Creation Phase begins
November 16: Cast kick-off meeting - informal zoom call to meet your fellow cast members
November 29: Creation Phase halfway point - 1:1 creation check-ins
December 21: Work in Progress video submission deadline, Iteration Phase begins
January 11: Work in Progress Session
February 8: Flow Show and Tell - all performers required to attend. Flow Show and Tell is an in-person event, remote attendance is available for people unable to travel to the Bay.
March 16: Production Phase begins
March 26-29: Tech Rehearsal and Show

The creative process can be elusive and challenging, from knowing where to start, to knowing if it's any good, to moving from practice to performance. As a member of our cast, you'll also have access to our crew of coaches offering a series of curated workshops and 1:1 coaching sessions.

Visiting and guest performers will be determined during this application phase. In recognition of a high level of professionalism and skill, these performers will be awarded additional funds, but are still required to participate in the Work in Progress video submission deadline on Dec 21st, and the Flow Show and Tell on February 8th.

Please mark the required dates in your calendar: Video Submission Deadline - Dec 21, Flow Show and Tell - Feb 8, Tech Rehearsal - March 26, Show - March 27-29

Performance Vision
The Flow Show values a unique aesthetic - performance work should be artistic and expressive. Tell us about your artistic intentions - what themes, techniques, mood, movement will you explore in your work? Alongside your vision, please submit a video showcasing your skill as a flow artist.

Applications are evaluated based on artistic quality, embodiment of technique, and professionalism. Additionally, the quality of any one application will be balanced against the Flow Show's objective to present a diverse range of props and performers, and to create an energetically balanced show.

We do not require a complete work, or work in progress, at this time. A work in progress video is required by December 21st, though, at which point we will determine the final cast of the show based on the quality of your work in progress submission.

Your vision can be concrete, or more abstract, and does not have to include a full storyline - often simpler visions are more achievable than complex storylines:
"I want to tell a story of dance and skill with 1 and 2 hoops including on-body hoop dance and off-body hoop manipulation. I'm looking for a song with a good dance beat - maybe an instrumental hip hop beat"
"In our duo, we want to show the ways competition and camaraderie can push us forward as individuals and a collective - we plan to show each other up on stage, but ultimately establish mutual appreciation and create some beautiful partner patterns together."

If you talk about doing hoop dance with 2 hoops to a hip hop beat, try to include a sample of what this looks like in your video submission - it doesn't have to be exact choreo. If you say "partner patterns" - show us in your video that you know at least a few basic partner patterns, even if you plan to develop new ones.
Act Vision/Artistic Intent *
Describe your act in 150 words or less
What props will you be using? *
Our venue cannot support fire, smoke, pyrotechnics, or aerial apparatuses. Aesthetically, we do not permit the use of LED props.
Video Link 1 *
Please share with us at least one video of your strongest work, work in progress, or sample of your flow - what skills do you possess to support your artistic vision? (30 seconds or more)
Video Link 2
(optional)
Anything else we should know about your act or video submissions?
If you shared a developed act, please specify if this is a sample of your work, or the actual act you intend to bring to Flow Show - if it is the actual act you intend to bring, please also tell us where you've previously performed it, and how you intend to use Flow Show's process to improve it and build upon it.
Compensation
While the Flow Show does seek to share our work with a public audience, the Flow Show is a community funded event. We commit to paying all performers at least $200. We acknowledge that this rate is not necessarily competitive with the rates a performer will make working as an entertainer or touring with a larger show.

We also value the opportunity to showcase extraordinary and diverse talent - to that end, we would like to offer travel stipends to certain Visiting Performers and talent awards to certain Guest Performers (even if travel is not an issue) in recognition of a high level of skill, professionalism, and artistic inspiration. Please tell us below if you would like a travel stipend or talent award.

Visiting and Guest Performers still need to participate in the Work in Progress video submission deadline on December 21st and Flow Show and Tell on February 8th (remote attendance via Zoom is acceptable).
Would you like to be considered for a travel stipend or talent award?
Clear selection
What support would you need to travel to San Francisco March 26th-29th?
What do you believe is a fair rate for your performance in the Flow Show?
Would you still consider performing in the show even if you were not awarded a travel stipend or talent award or it was not the full amount requested?
Clear selection
Thank you!
