TEDxRoseTree 2019 Speaker Application
Have a big idea?
Want to share it with others?
Then we want to hear from you!

Thank you for your interest in being a speaker TedxRoseTree... Media, PA's very first TEDx event.

This is an amazing opportunity for you to get up on the stage and share your big idea (or, “Idea Worth Spreading", as TED calls them) with the Media, PA community.

And it doesn’t stop there. Your talk will be recorded and then hosted on the TED.com website, where it will be available to a global audience!

Of course, we also want to be clear from the start… being a TEDx speaker is more than just standing on a stage and talking for 18 minutes. There are responsibilities and commitments all TEDx speakers will have to abide by, so please read the rest of this form before making your decision.
First things first. Where and when?
TEDxRoseTree will be held the afternoon of November 19th, 2019 at The Media Theatre.
There will be a dress rehearsal the day before to run through your talk on stage.
What is the theme of TEDxRoseTree?
As you may or may not know, every TEDx has a theme. TEDxRoseTree’s theme is “Grassroots.”

Grassroots showcases how every idea starts as a small concept, and requires some level of incubation and nurture. While the term grassroots often has a political connotation, it really embraces ALL ideas that grow when they involve their community. Because our community of Media, PA has long supported the tenets of this kind of intense community involvement and activism, it seemed like a perfect choice for TEDxRoseTree.
Are there any specific requirements for my talk?
Yes. TEDx has specific rules all speakers must follow.
* Your talk must be 18 minutes or less.
* Your "Idea Worth Spreading" must be your own.
* Your talk CANNOT address political/religious agendas.
* Your talk CANNOT directly promote a company, business, or product.
* You will be required to sign a release form prepared by TED.

IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that ALL potential TEDx speakers read the book "TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking" by Chris Anderson. This book is available on Amazon.

Please pay close attention to Chapter 4: The Throughline. You will be REQUIRED to answer what the Throughline of your proposed TEDx talk will be in this application. Clarity on your Throughline will make a difference in how you present your talk, how you convey your idea, and what listeners take away from your talk.
How will I know my "Idea Worth Spreading" is relevant/original/valid?
Before you even start the application process, check out the TEDx content guidelines from the link below. They provide a great outline that will help you better understand what your talk needs to be.

Also, visit www.TED.com and check out TED and TEDx talks that might have similar ideas to your proposed TEDx talk.

As organizers, we will also speak with your directly about your speech in the months leading up to the event. Be prepared to share with us why your proposed talk is unique and different.

And of course, all applications must be completed by the speaker, and not a third party.

Here is a helpful video to give you an idea of what a talk should be, and how to craft one:
