About Sofia
I believe each client has the capacity for healing and self-actualization. I bring genuine empathy, acceptance, curiosity, and hope into my relationship with clients so they may feel understood, valued, and empowered to move towards growth at every point in the lifespan. I celebrate my clients’ unique culture, wisdom, strengths, and identities. I collaborate with clients to explore how systems of power and oppression impact their well-being. I support clients in making meaning in their lives and relationships.
I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland State University with a focus in chronic illness and disability. I have additional training and experience in Child-Centered Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy, Grief Counseling, Existential Humanistic Psychotherapy, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.
I am a passionate advocate and community leader. I currently serve on the Oregon Board of Psychology, and have previously served on the executive boards of the Oregon Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development and the Oregon Counseling Association. I served on the American Counseling Association Anti-Racism Taskforce in 2020.
I am the proud daughter of Muslim immigrants and am a first-generation college student. My mission is to center the voices of Black, Indigenous, POC, Disabled, Queer, Trans, and Affectionally Diverse communities within the counseling profession and co-create a world in which ALL people can find “a counselor who looks like me.”
As a Professional Counselor Associate registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, I am supervised by Summer Brown, LMFT and Kimberly Jayne, PhD, LPC, NCC, RPT-S.
