Workshop scope
The main objective of this workshop is to gain insight into the causes and consequences of the Turkey and Syria 2023 earthquake to be learned and taught in our universities.
The strategy involves applying both an interdisciplinary approach and Artificial Intelligence (AI) features (SDG 17). The workshop is co-headed by ITU (Istanbul) and UPM teams. Other participating institutions are the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM) and the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (TEC, Mexico).
This challenge encompasses a variety of tasks:
1) Collecting relevant information on DAMAGE and FAILURE PATTERNS.
2) Improving knowledge about damages on buildings and infrastructure.
3) Analyzing the technical, societal and economic features derived from this earthquake, with the aim of elaborating a set of recommendations on seismic provisions and retrofit measures for the future.
