Lakewood Arts Gallery Overview:

Lakewood Arts Gallery is a non-profit co-operative retail gallery that sells artists’ work. The gallery operates under the umbrella of the Lakewood Arts Council (LAC) run by a Board of Directors. The LAC Board manages business needs, covers gallery expenses, and decides on Art Center usage.

Gallery Hours:

(Subject to change)

- Wednesday & Thursday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

- Friday: 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm

- Saturday & Sunday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Co-Op Structure:

- Comprised of up to 31 dues-paying members

- All members actively participate in daily gallery operations and Lakewood Arts events

- Volunteer efforts are essential for co-operative functioning

Member Commitment:

Members are expected to actively engage in the following ways:

- General Co-op Meetings: Second Saturday of January, March, May, July, September, and November at 9:30 am (time subject to change)

- Rotation of artist’s assigned display spaces in January, May, and September.

- Gallery Shifts: One 5-hour shift per month involving opening/closing, sales transactions, cleaning, and other duties assigned.

- First Friday: Required to work the checkout desk on one First Friday evening per year.

- Committee Involvement: Active participation in committees is mandatory, including Garden Tour work.

Annual Time Commitment (Sample):

- Bi-monthly Co-op meetings: 12 hours

- Gallery shift work: 60 hours

- First Friday: 3 to 4 hours

- Committee involvement: 40 to 50 hours

Total: 115 to 124 hours per year (approx. 11 hours per month)

Membership Application
Co-op Membership Benefits and Responsibilities:

- Gallery manager will provide training upon acceptance

- Display rules and gallery re-hanging schedules in place

- Upkeep of individual artist spaces is artist’s responsibility

- Membership fees, commission rates, and display requirements apply

- Members must attend meetings, fulfill, work shifts, and actively participate

Membership Fees:

- $40 annual for Lakewood Arts Council Membership, must be current each year (Individual Membership but depending on circumstances, a different level could be required and would be discussed)

- $350 annual membership fee

- 25% commission on sales deducted from proceeds

- No membership fee refunds

Membership Requirements:

- Must be an active Member of Lakewood Arts Council

- Attend 4 out of 6 membership meetings per year

- Active engagement with public, sales, LAC business inquiries, and more

- One full-day work shift each month and one First Friday per year

- Replacement or coverage options for missed shifts available

- Committee participation or assigned tasks for gallery operation

- 30-day notice required for membership termination

- Members responsible for artwork safety in the gallery
