SYNCH is an annual conference offered free of charge to all Virginia higher education professionals hosted by John Tyler Community College each January. The inaugural 2022 SYNCH Conference will explore distance learning in all of its modalities: synchronous, asynchronous, HyFlex, and other creative explorations of online learning.
We invite proposals for round table discussions, panel presentations, or workshops covering such topics as equity in distance education, innovative practices, tech tools, methods of increasing student engagement, assessment practices, best practices for meeting distance learning regulations, accessibility, and use or implementation of OER.
This year’s conference will be held on Wednesday, January 5 and Thursday, January 6 in a hybrid format with face to face sessions for all Tyler employees and virtual sessions for non-Tyler employees. Conference presenters may elect to be face to face or virtual and will present to both in-person and online audience members simultaneously.
We invite you to reflect on these questions: how have we innovated our practices in order to promote inclusivity and equity, and what lessons and practices from the past year do we want to carry forward?
Submit your proposal here. Proposals are due by September 15, 2021. For questions, please reach out to Dr. Shauna Mayo, Professional Development Coordinator, at
