SURIMI is a
Horizon Europe funded project that will
develop and integrate socio-economic and ecological models as well as
user-friendly tools into the
European Digital Twin of the Ocean (EU DTO) to inform ecosystem-based fisheries management. This will help users to test different management strategies and make better decisions about Ocean management under the management strategy evaluation (
MSE) principles.
How?
- User-friendly toolbox: The project will develop a set of freely available tools that include models for assessing the socio-economic and ecological effects of fisheries management measures, decision-making aids that use artificial intelligence to run the simulations and obtain answers through written text (similar to chatGPT) and an easy-to-use graphical user interface.
-
Integration into the EU DTO: SURIMI will develop a protocol to ensure models can “talk to each other” so that they can be used in combination. This protocol will be useful to other DTO projects that require communication between models.
-
Collaboration: SURIMI will work with various stakeholders to ensure the tools meet their needs and can be tailored to specific situations in different parts of the EU.
Stakeholder ForumSURIMI seeks to actively involve a diverse range of stakeholders from research, industry, advocacy, policy and society. For this purpose, we are building a stakeholder database to ensure we can involve anyone with an interest in the project. We would love to have you onboard!
