As the US is sending signs of geopolitical retreat, with hopes for military aid receding from Ukraine to Israel and with Donald Trump setting the government agenda even before he is elected president, the conversation among the European political elites is turning to the bitter subject of self-defense. Ukraine is less and less perceived as an end-goal for Moscow, and more and more as a buffer zone between Russia and Europe, which is now shrinking under the ammunition hunger, met with silence across the Atlantic.
