Application for Sustainability Intern Bronco Surplus (Summer 2019)  
The Center for Sustainability advances the ways in which social justice and sustainability intersect by integrating principles of social, environmental, and economic sustainability into campus operations, academic and student life, and outreach programs.

The following position supports the Center for Sustainability, which leads the campus community in developing a culture of sustainability to build a more just, humane, and sustainable world. Student employees at the Center for Sustainability advance the ways in which social justice and sustainability intersect by integrating principles of social, environmental, and economic sustainability into campus operations, academic and student life, and outreach programs. Each student employee's responsibilities enhance SCU’s ability to: a) achieve Climate Neutrality, b) practice responsible consumerism, c) develop a culture of sustainability among all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors, and d) use the campus as a living laboratory for developing global solutions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This Sustainability Project Assistant is the project lead for Bronco Surplus, an event-based program that develops a reuse culture on campus. This position is responsible for the coordination and collection of selected goods for Bronco Surplus from the residence halls during Move-Out and will work with fellow student employees to achieve this donation sorting. This project assistant will also be tasked with organizing and categorizing the supplies, marketing the event through digital advertisements, emails, and tabling during Orientation, and hosting and managing the pop-up store itself during the summer, the week prior to the start of the school year, and Move-In Weekend. This project assistant is a paid position and is expected to work hours in the spring quarter during Week 10 in May, Finals Week in June and about two weeks afterward. Work hours resume again in mid-July and early August, and then again in the first couple of weeks before school, including Move-In weekend. (Approximately 9-10 weeks of work.) Candidate must be local or be able to return to campus for the necessary times described above.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Understanding of sustainability and practical knowledge of SCU sustainability initiatives are important but not required – however, a strong interest in sustainability and the passion to learn more is crucial.

The successful candidate will be independent, a self-starter, well-organized, creative, have the ability to prioritize multiple on-going projects/tasks with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills and/or experience doing research are a major plus. Candidates will work alone and collaborate with other students, so the ability to work as a team is key.

This position also has been approved for the Environmental Studies and Sciences department's internship requirement.

All majors are welcome, current sophomores/juniors are preferred.

HOURS:
• Somewhat Flexible. 10 hours/week from 8 am - 5 pm, you choose hours during the required weeks. Required weeks have some set times.
