Towards the end of year 9 learners at Idris Davies School are asked to choose the qualifications they would like to study throughout years 10 and 11.
Brief Overview :
Step 1 - Each pupil completes the Initial declaration of interest form via a google form emailed to their school email address or year group classroom (end of March).
Step 2 – The Senior Leadership Team and Governing body decide which subjects are viable and how they should be arranged to avoid pupil clashes (Summer term).
Step 3 – Each pupil completes their final option form via a google form emailed to their school Gmail address (Summer term)
The first step of the Year 9 Options process is for each learner to complete the Initial declaration of interest google form emailed to their school email account (This form). This allows us to determine the demand for each subject and collate option columns that minimize clashes between subjects.
In order to complete this form it is essential that each Year 9 learner spends some time carefully researching courses they are interested in. This will enable them to determine which qualifications would offer them the best chance of success in their future employment and learning pathways.
In order to do this pupils should consult the CareersWales website (
https://careerswales.gov.wales/). Miss Bethany Lamb (Careers officer for I.D.S.) is available for advice and guidance. Miss Lamb can be contacted by her email address –
bethany.lamb@careerswales.gov.wales. After you make initial contact she is more than willing to follow up any advice required via email, or a phone call.
In addition to this located on the school website and emailed along with the link for the google form is a PDF GCSE Options Booklet ‘Year 10 & 11 Studies – a guide for pupils & parents’. This booklet contains information about each of the 20 plus subjects available in the initial survey. When completing the declaration of interest form via the google form please remember you should include 4 choices, and list them in the order of importance that you value them.
Look carefully at the subjects which are being offered. If you are unsure of a subject which is being offered please email the relevant Subject Leader, they can offer you further guidance.
The deadline for the initial declaration of interest google form to be completed is Friday March 27th.
Once the initial declaration forms are returned, collated and assessed, Steps 2 and 3 will take place in the Summer term. You will be informed of the results of step 2 and the distribution of the final option form via your own School gmail account.
