In 1949, in response to the devastation of WWII, members of the Kansas City Jewish community welcomed and rallied support for displaced persons in search of a new life. Today, Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) continues to honor the commitment of our founders by supporting refugees and immigrants in our community. JVS’ mission is to engage, encourage, and empower people to achieve social, cultural, and economic integration. JVS believes all people have intrinsic worth and dignity and can flourish with support. JVS provides immigrants and refugees access to the following services: community integration support, health access, social work and intensive case management, employment searches and job readiness training, immigration legal services, and interpreter services.
The JVS Young Professionals Board (YPB) is composed of professionals, aged 22-35, who meet monthly (January - November 2026), support JVS by planning quarterly fundraising and "friendraising" events. The goal of the YPB is to raise unrestricted funds for the agency, develop awareness of JVS' work, engage other young professionals in the city, and create space for individuals to learn about/develop leadership skills.
