Canvass with La ColectiVA to get #ICEoutofArlington and #MakeBarcroftAffordable
#ICEoutofArlington
Community members harmed by policing/collaboration with ICE, La ColectiVA, and partner organizations have been pushing Arlington County to end collaboration with ICE in Arlington - including its police department - and calling for a countywide policy. In response to our community efforts, we have had two community wins !! 1. Our policy demands through the Communities of Arlington Protected from Abuse by ICE (CAPA) policy, Arlington County members adopted a "Trust" Policy on July 20, 2022 including 5 of our proposed provisions.2. Arlington County Sheriff Office ended all voluntary collaboration with ICE as of December 20, 2022.

The policy Arlington County board members adopted a countywide policy ending/preventing collaboration with ICE, **with an exception for the Police Department - giving ACPD discretion to continue partnering with ICE**. This is unacceptable! We are demanding that the Arlington county board members remove section 7 of the Trust policy and accept a range of identification documents. Take action by canvassing with us to get more support and end collaboration with this violent agency by updating the "Trust policy".

#MakeBarcroftAffordable
The Barcroft Tenant Group has a petition with their demands to be able to remain in their communities. On December 2021, Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners bought Barcroft Apartments for 310 Million dollars. The new owner received two loans below the interest market rate,150 millions dollars came from Arlington County public funds and 160 million from Amazon’s Housing Equity Fund. As part of the contract with Arlington County, Jair Lynch Real Estate can raise rents by 3% per year. The Community at Barcroft makes below Arlington’s 60% Area Median Income (AMI). The current rent is already high for this community, meaning this 3% rent increase yearly would displace the Barcroft community. Arlington County gave this loan of 150 million so that the Barcroft community won’t be displaced, but if nothing is done, these communities will be displaced. We need Arlington board members to take action and stop this 3% increase. Arlington board members have said Jair Lynch Real Estate will work with these communities, but these are developers and investors who are guided by profits. Arlington County board members need to be held accountable as county official leaders. Also, Amazon’s equity Fund is part of the problem, not a situation as it has been framed. Join us canvassing to show your support for the Barcroft tenant group.
