~National company franchise products such as Mary Kay, Avon, reps for any national business, home improvements, etc., are not a fit for this show. This includes products that are mass produced overseas or in the U.S.
~Products that use animal fur, endangered/exotic woods, animals harvested for human luxury products or entertainment are a no. Vintage re-purposed animal fur or selling vintage fur clothing or wood is an accepted product.
~Feathers found in nature are a BIG NO due to the U.S. North American Migratory Bird Act, it is a Federal crime to use songbird feathers for anything. If you are unsure about your feathers, please visit: U.S. Fish & Wildlife. Feathers bought at craft stores or picked up at farms from chickens, turkeys, emus, ostrich, peacocks are a yes. Info about federal law pertaining to feathers is available at: https://www.fws.gov/birds/policies-and-regulations/laws-legislations/migratory-bird-treaty-act.php)
~Bones found in nature and used for art are allowable. Bones provided from trapping or hunting is a no for this show. Please no rabbit feet unless you can prove to me you raise the rabbit and eat them.
~Canned & Baked Goods must abide by state FL cottage laws and MUST be packaged for sale. Samples of food are allowed but sales of food items must be sold as "take-away" items. Please visit this link to make sure you are following the law of the land: FL Cottage Food Laws at: https://www.freshfromflorida.com/Business-Services/Food-Establishment-Inspections/Cottage-Foods
~Jewelry - if accepted into the show, the majority of jewelry makers are rewarded only one day at Atomic due to the high volume of jewelry applicants. Jewelry is the number one genre for applicants to the Atomic show. However, if you are traveling at least more than 50 miles to work the show, I take that into consideration if you want to work the entire weekend.
~Jewelry - supplies manufactured overseas are usually necessary to build our objects of desire. However, products will be scrutinized if they consist mainly of new mass produced pieces and most likely will not be accepted into Atomic. If your jewelry is 100% fabricated from stuff you bought at Jo-Ann's, Michael's or Hobby Lobby, sorry, this is not the show for your creations. Originality is expected by me and by the Atomic shoppers.
~Body Products - there is a lot of duplication or similarities in the body product genre, b.p.'s have become the second largest body of Atomic applicants. Due to the large number of applicants, you may be asked to work one day in order to satisfy qualified applicants so everyone gets a chance to work a day at Atomic. However, if you are traveling at least more than 50 miles to work the show, I take that into consideration if you want to work the entire weekend.
BAY FRONT ROOM DETAILS: the Bay Front room is located at the rear end of the Main Auditorium building and has separate entrance/exits located at each side of that room. The B.F. room is an entirely separate room from the main room. There is no wi-fi in this room and vendors do not have electrical access. The B.F. room is well lit and has a wall of windows that bring in much light. Vendors are responsible for display+dressing up of table; full table rentals do not have to use the table provided but MUST fit within the "footprint" of where the table would have been. Half tables are encouraged if you are new to indie-craft shows and want to test the waters by not making a huge financial commitment. If you rent a half table with a friend, remember, your friend MUST fill out the application also. If you opt for a half table and don't have a partner vendor, I will pair you with another vendor who does not work in the same genre as you, however, you both MUST use the rental table provided. There are two bathrooms in the Bay Front room that can work as dressing rooms in the event you are selling apparel.
STREET FAIR DETAILS: The Street Fair is located on Plaza De Santo Domingo, a small street located in between the Municipal Building and the Sarasota Art Center who hold their arts and craft show the same weekend as Atomic allowing for major foot traffic. Vendors are responsible for supplying set ups, which means, you bring the tent, table, displays, etc. Vendors are responsible for display and dressing up of space; vendors MUST fit within the "footprint" of the space they have rented with no display bleed out into the middle shopping walk way. There are certain "safety" measures you are responsible for fulfilling, i.e., your tent or umbrella must be weighted down to ensure it doesn't fly and strike a human or damage anything. There is NO access to electric. Generators are not permitted. Smoking is not permitted in vendor rental areas, vendors must go to designated smoke areas for their nicotine breaks. The street fair will not be cancelled due to inclement weather and refunds will not be issued. The show must go on, so plan accordingly and be prepared.
SPLITTING / SHARING RENTAL SPACE: if you want to share the experience with a talented friend, no problem! If you have never worked a craft show before, this may be a more affordable way to test the experience. If you plan on splitting a table, booth or space with a friend, both of you MUST fill out the application and you both must indicate who your "share partner" is when filling out this application. I encourage people new to the craft world to consider this option, it is a better way to test reception of what you are making with the public and is a good way to learn the ropes of craft shows. If you don't have a friend to split a table rental with, I will pair you with another vendor who does not work in the same genre as you, however, you both MUST use the rental table provided.
Customers are charged a $5 admission to enter the main room; the Bay Front room and Street Fair are free to enter.
1) Personal taste of the producer (me), which is questionable but I know my Atomic shopping audience. Quite simply there are some things that I know will not work or sell at the Atomic show. That does not mean your stuff doesn't rock, it just means there is a better show out there for you other than Atomic.
2) Personal relationships developed over the years of working together in Atomic can sometimes help you to get a leg up on someone new. However, timing is everything so if you procrastinate, just because you know me does not guarantee there will be a space available for you, by now, most Atomic alumni know that this show sells out quickly.
3) Variety is the spice of life and in the indie craft/arts scene there can be a lot of similarities, trying to keep merch fresh and varied is difficult. So while your creations may be awesome, you may not be accepted due to a similar creator being accepted prior to your application submission.
4) Price Points. Most vendors who do the best at Atomic tend to have items priced at $35 and below. There are some high end $$ items for sale at the show and I am always open to viewing original work that is pricey (I know how much time all of you put into making your creations, I get it!). If accepted, I want you to have a good experience as a vendor so if I think you may be taking a financial risk in renting a space at the show, I will inform you and explain why your application was not accepted. But to be clear, I have seen Atomic vendors sell one of a kind originals mixed in with more affordable items they have for sale and some Atomic shoppers don't blink an eye on spending some major moola.
5) If you insist that you require two tables, email me and state your case. I may be persuaded if you can show me that your inventory is abundant but isn't enough for a booth space. In some cases I understand the need for two tables but I prefer to give another artist the opportunity to get into Atomic to rise the product variety bar. The same goes for booth spaces, if you really think you can bring it and sell it, I may be agreeable.
STANDARD ACCEPTANCE: You will be notified within one to four (1-4) weeks upon receipt of your application whether you have been accepted into Atomic or not. Most emails of "yes" or "no" are done in group emails due to the high number of applicants.
DECLINED APPLICATION: If your application has been declined, you will be notified in a GROUP Decline email due to the high number of applicants to the Atomic show. Application volume is incredibly high and if you want me to be respectfully specific, please email me with your request and I will explain kindly why it didn't work out this year.
NO WEBSITE: If you do not have a website or use Facebook, Instagram, Etsy or Pinterest to sell or promote your items, please email me pictures of your latest creations. It is not necessary to have a website or use social media to promote your creations to be a part of Atomic. However, if you do not have pictures available online, you MUST email me at email@example.com with your business name that you entered in the application so I can identify who you are and what you make and include photos of what you wish to sell at the Atomic show.
PAYMENT: Payment is expected within two weeks of your official acceptance email. Accepted vendors have the choice of PayPal, Venmo, check and, money order. Layaway is another option and accepted vendors may choose to break payments into three installments that are staggered over the summer and early fall. However, final payment must be completed by November 1, 2019. All rentals are charged 7% FL sales tax unless you provide a State Tax Certificate Number or live in another state. All accepted vendors receive their Atomic invoice about a day after they receive their Atomic acceptance email.
REFUNDS / CANCELLATION POLICY: Refunds are granted within two weeks when requested through April 15 - September 30. Refunds requested after September 30 will be remitted two weeks after the Atomic showsCancellations occurring during the Atomic weekend forfeit their payment unless emergency can be demonstrated.
If accepted into the show, you will receive mails regarding setting up, display tips, do's and don'ts, driving directions, hotel info and more reading materials than one ever really wants to have to read. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I try to respond within a week of receipt due to the high volume of emails I receive.
