$300 Community Service Project Grant to Support Literacy
The purpose of this grant is to support local community service projects that focus on literacy.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS MUST HAVE AN IMPACT THAT EXTENDS BEYOND THE SCHOOL WALLS.
*Current members of the Portland Reading Council are eligible to apply.
Funded projects have included:
- high school students wrote book reviews - then donated the titles to Street Books, a mobile library for people living outside in Portland
- created a lending library for children in a low income apartment complex
- supported 2nd grade literacy skills via a mentoring partnership with high school basketball players
Applications are accepted throughout the school year.
