Makin’ Groceries Mobile Market provides access to nutritious food at affordable prices, combined with nutrition and health and wellness education.
Guidelines:
The market can be requested upon availability. We prefer at least 6 weeks' notice; however, we can book events one year in advance. The earlier you request the higher the change we will be available for your event.
In the West, we serve the following parishes:
- Acadia
- Evangeline
- Iberia
- Lafayette
- St. Landry
- St. Martin
- Vermillion
Site Requirements:
1. Location MUST identify as the following:
- Food desert: more than one mile from a grocery store
- Rural: more than 10 miles from a grocery store
- Under-resourced/under-served: high poverty rate, low income, low access to healthcare
2.Location MUST be accessible for Mobile Market truck
- At least six (6) parking spaces are needed for the truck to set up
- Adequate parking and accessibility for customers
- Locations MUST NOT be in a parking lot of an existing business unless permitted by owner
Event Details:
1.Mobile Market events may be schedule Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am and 3pm in all parishes except for Calcasieu.
Mobile Market events may only be scheduled on the 3rd Saturday of the month in Calcasieu parish
- Events are NOT to be more than four (4) hours
2. Services to choose from include:- Mobile Market sales + Nutrition Education + Health Services
3.Mobile Market events MUST be promoted by the requesting individual/organization in the form of:
- Flyers/poster/social media in the community in which the market will take place
- Joint promotion is available for organization partners
