Place: Phillipson Parking Lot, site of Open Market.
Description of Event: Last year’s event was lots of fun and very successful. As a result, this year’s event will be expanded to allow for individual participants. To be fair, individuals and non-food related businesses will compete in an “open class”; bars, restaurants, groceries will compete in the “business class”. We will set up a large tent and a serving line in the Phillipson lot. There will be music by the Junction Jammers and we will serve beer. The regular market vendors will set up in available space toward the front of the lot. Visitors will be invited to sample your chili and vote on the best chili (people’s choice) and best presentation (e.g. a fun table decoration or server in costume). Winners in each class will receive a plaque and bragging rights. Participants will collect the tickets organizers sell at the event and be reimbursed at the rate of $0.25 per ticket. We are doing this to encourage participation by offsetting some of your out of pocket cost. Example: 4.5 gal chili sampled at 3oz per cup returns $48 to the participant. The better your chili and the better your display, the greater your chance of selling out and recouping your expense.
