AEJMC Center for Community News Pre-Conference Workshop
Powering Local News: Universities Making a Difference
WHEN: Wed August 7; Noon-5:00 pm.
WHERE: Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.
WHAT: The Center for Community News will host a half-day conference to connect university-led reporting program leaders, highlight new initiatives, and examine the successes and challenges of student news partnerships. There will be lots of time built in for networking and conversations across programs.
Lunch is included. (Note, you do not have to register for the AEJMC Conference to attend this pre-conference event).
AGENDA:
- WELCOME: Welcome and Introductions.
- STATE OF ACADEMIC-NEWS PARTNERSHIPS: Summary of recent research on number of programs and scale and impact.
- FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES: Presentation and discussion of local, state, regional and national funding opportunities and ideas.
- PANEL 1: The Democracy Beat: Statehouse reporting and the 2024 election
- PANEL 2: Cross-campus collaborations; public health, environmental reporting, data science and more
- PANEL 3: Public media: There are180 university-licensed public radio stations. What is the potential to increase collaborations between programs and public media?
- CCN FACULTY CHAMPIONS: Recognition of Faculty Champions and announcement of next cohorts (More details here)
