A new CEN Workshop is being planned as part of the activities of the EU project 'BIOUPTAKE'. The aim of this project is to ensure a sustainable uptake of bioplastic composites in the European manufacturing industry.
The movement is strong to make sustainable processes and products a norm in the EU. The BIOUPTAKE project plays an important role in the journey towards sustainable manufacturing by utilising biobased materials to generate innovative solutions.
In order to correctly ascertain the true sustainability of such materials, a thorough assessment of the chemical safety and life cycle impacts is essential. This Workshop will complement the research of the BIOUPTAKE project by focussing on the freshwater ecotoxicity of bio-based materials.
The proposed CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) will seek to explain the process for the characterization of the ecotoxicity of such materials. More particularly, process described can be applied to bio-based epoxy resins; bio-based fibbers from wood and carbon materials and bio-based polymers in the form of pellets. This approach will be beneficial as it will allow materials and products to be validated in terms of environmental requirements for their marketing.
The kick-off meeting for the Workshop will be an online meeting on 3rd of December 2025). To register, please fill in the form below. A link will then be sent to you to join the meeting.
