At BSM, student course placement is based on a variety of factors such as student performance, standardized test scores, course prerequisites/recommendations, and teacher recommendations. As noted in the Program of Studies, some course selections include earning a prerequisite or recommended minimum grade in current or previous coursework. The purpose of a prerequisite or recommended grade is to ensure the most successful experience for the student. Honors and AP level courses move at an accelerated pace and require certain skills and knowledge in addition to a strong work ethic and ability to devote extra time and energy to the course. One potential outcome is that a higher mark may be more difficult to achieve in a course where the student did not meet the prerequisite or recommended grade. As the student and parent/guardian, we understand the implications of this override. *
