Send a Troupe Grant Application

The Send a Troupe to the Alabama State Thespian Festival 2017 Grant was created for a current Thespian or Junior Thespian Troupe of the International Thespian Society (ITS) which has never previously attended the Alabama State Thespian Festival and can demonstrate financial barriers to attending. The application can be submitted by a Thespian troupe director or an inducted Thespian, with the approval of the troupe director.

In 2017, at least two Thespian troupe will receive a one-time grant to cover the basic Thespian Festival registration fees for a teacher, up to 12 inducted Thespians, and two chaperones. This grant’s judging committee may choose not to award this scholarship if, in their opinion, there are no deserving applicants.

    Grant Criteria

    •​At the time of application, the Thespian troupe must be current in their troupe dues and “in good standing.” •​All troupes applying cannot have attended the Alabama State Thespian Festival in the past. ** •​All troupes applying must be able to demonstrate financial barriers to attending the Alabama State Thespian Festival. •​All students listed on the application must be inducted Thespians. ** This rule can be amended if the troupe is reactivating their status or has not attended festival in the previous two years.

    Application Requirements

    •​A list of the inducted Thespians being brought to the Thespian Festival if selected. •​A count of total adults being brought to chaperone. •​A letter of recommendation from an administrator (principal, school board member, or department head) supporting the financial barriers experienced by the troupe applying. • Junior Troupes who apply are required to spend both days at the festival. Those who have opted for the one day plan may not apply for the Send a Troupe Scholarship.

    ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS

    Please ask your administrator to type a maximum of one page statement of support using standard letter format. Additional pages will be disqualified. The letter should evaluate and summarize the barriers that this Thespian troupe, or any of its members, may have in attending the Thespian Festival. Please attach this letter to an email and send to althespianfestival@gmail.com re:send a troupe grant. The letter from a maximum of ONE administrator, school board member, or department head will be allowed for submission. Additional letters will not be reviewed.
