Are you ready to create, build and learn programming in a fun and friendly environment? Computer Science projects will include using the flexible and creative Arduino microprocessors integrating C programming, Game Design or App Development, data compression methods, CyberSecurity and Encryption!
This YWiC- Yo GUTC Summer Camp is for new participants and will host up to 20 young women in high school. Th camp will include materials and supplies and an opportunity to win technology prizes, plus swag (bags, notepads, pens, etc.). This camp is for young women rising into 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade.
NMSU's Department of Computer Science and the Young Women in Computing program (or YWiC, pronounced "why whick") and the Yo-GUTC summer camps are tailored to achieve four major goals:
1) Build community among young women through computing;2) Increase young women's interest in computing;3) Gain knowledge and experience with programming languages; and4) Drastically increase young women's confidence in Computer Science.
Each goal is achieved through specific sets of activities implemented in the summer camp. Participants utilize computational thinking through a variety of interactive software tools. These tools, along with team building, career exploration, and leadership activities, show students that computer science is a fun, creative, engaging, and rewarding field!
We strive for excellence in all areas of teaching and learning, and work to identify best practices for continued success. All participants will engage in this process via pre- and post-assessments, entry and exit interviews, daily surveys, and other data gathering methods.
Acceptance into this program is based on first entry and is not a competitive process. The application will remain open until all slots are filled.
We can't wait to see you!
