2026 MAEA Fall Conference Proposal Form

MAEA invites you to share your expertise with your fellow visual art educators at the 2026 Fall Conference by submitting a workshop proposal.  The fall conference is October 22-24th, 2026 in Jackson, MS.

This year's fall conference theme is Our Stories. Our Art. Our Legacy

The 2026 MAEA Fall Conference invites visual art educators, artists, administrators, teaching artists, and creative educators to gather around the theme Our Stories. Our Art. Our Legacy.

This year's conference celebrates the power of “storytelling through the arts”, focusing on the stories we inherit, the stories we create, the stories our students carry, and the stories we leave behind. We invite presenters to explore how art can serve as a vehicle for identity, memory, culture, connection, reflection, and change. We are seeking conference presentations, workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions that inspire educators to help students discover, explore, interpret, and communicate stories through artistic practice.

Presentation topics may include:

  • Narrative storytelling through the visual arts
  • Using art to explore personal identity, family history, heritage, and lived experiences
  • Storytelling through painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital art, design, and media arts
  • Exploring living traditions, folklore, community stories, and cultural heritage through art
  • Connecting personal narratives to place, community, and sense of belonging
  • Incorporating oral histories, family stories, interviews, artifacts, and archival materials into artmaking
  • Helping students transform memories, experiences, and emotions into meaningful works of art by honoring students' cultural stories and traditions
  • Contemporary artists who use storytelling, identity, history, or social commentary in their work
  • Hands-on processes, techniques, and projects that encourage students to communicate meaningful ideas through art

Whether your expertise lies in visual art, design, photography, digital media, arts leadership, curriculum, teaching practice, or another creative discipline, we want to hear what you have learned and what you have to share. We are looking for presentations that are practical, engaging, thought-provoking, and rooted in authentic experiences. Share a lesson that transformed your classroom. Introduce us to an artist or artistic process that changed the way you teach. Demonstrate a technique that gives students a new way to communicate. Tell us about a project that connected students to their families, cultures, communities, or histories.

Most importantly, share your story!

Our classrooms are filled with stories waiting to be discovered. Our students use art to make meaning of the world around them. And every lesson and creative experience contributes to the legacy we leave with the next generation. MAEA invites you to bring your story, your expertise, and your creative practice to the 2026 Fall Conference. Our Stories. Our Art. Our Legacy.

What stories will you share? What art will you create? What legacy will you leave?
