North Korea experienced a series of jaw-dropping events last year: from the remarkable Inter-Korean Summit to the historical Summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, and now a disarmed Joint Security Area. With a rapid change from the inside out, what will 2019 hold for North Korea?

This tour will lead you deep into the core of North Korea’s society, to witness the authentic living of workers and peasants under long-term international sanctions and review the changes in recent years. Entering the isolated country by train, you will not only have a glimpse of the rural cities, but also encounters with North Koreans who often travel across the borders.

You will also experience the country in a series of traditional and exclusive activities, interacting with local students, strolling along the streets of Pyongyang with minimal official intervention, visiting department stores and cruising the capital city by Pyongyang Metro.

Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: 3 April 2019 (Wednesday)
| Shenyang: Beginning of the Programme |
- Gathering in Vienna International Hotel (維也納國際酒店) in Shenyang, China (瀋陽市) at 22:30
Day 2: 4 April 2019 (Thursday)
| Dandong > Pyongyang: First Glimpse of Pyongyang |
- High speed train from Shenyang to Dandong 丹東, a Chinese city bordering Sinujiu 新義州, the special economic zone built by North Korea modelling on Hong Kong
- Train from Dandong to Pyongyang City 平壤市 : throughout the train journey you will be able to meet local Koreans, from young athletes to businessmen – a great opportunity to talk with them and get a brief idea about the world’s most isolated country.
- Arrival at Pyongyang City, to be greeted by our familiar local guides
- Welcoming dinner with North Korean local guides
- Overnight at Ryanggang Hotel in Pyongyang 兩江飯店
Day 3: 5 April 2019 (Friday)
| Kaesong > Pyongyang: Rugged Road to Reunification |
- Depart for Kaesong City 開城市
- The Arch of reunification 統一門, a statue of two women embracing the map of the reunified Korean Peninsula.
- Demilitarized Zone/Panmunjom 三八線/板門店, the most fortified border on Earth that still sees the standoff between the two Koreas, we will discuss the changes after the significant disarmed agreement signed between two sides last year.
- Koryo Museum 高麗成均館, a UNESCO heritage that preserves ancient Korean relics, to know more about the history of Koryo Dynasty.
- Traditional Pansanggi Lunch 傳統銅碗午餐, to have a taste of the traditional royal banquet.
- Private Walking to Kaesong Old Town Centre 開城中心城區 , the walk in this simple and traditional city will give you a very different Korean image, one that is the exact opposite of the hustle and bustle in Pyongyang.
- Jaman Hill Lookout 子男山丘, enjoy the breath-taking view of Kaesong on the lookout; we may even see locals hanging out in the area.
- Return to Pyongyang
- Private walking at Future Scientist Street 未來科學家大街, we will walk along the new modern street built for Pyongyang's professors and scientists.
- Taedong River Bar 大同江酒吧, a local bar in Pyongyang - enjoy the Happy Friday and have a chit chat with our friendly Korean guides there.
- Overnight at Ryanggang Hotel in Pyongyang 兩江飯店
Day 4: 6 April 2019 (Saturday)
| Pyongyang > Kaesong: Behind the Propaganda |
- Mansudae Grand Monument 萬壽台紀念碑, visit the highest statue of the country's two most important leaders, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, in the centre of the capital city.
- Exchange session with a Pyongyang Middle School 與北韓中學生交流, an rare opportunity to talk with local students in an informal environment and know more about their school lives and reflect on the local educational system.
- Lunch in the Pizza Restaurant in Pyongyang, having a 'taste' of the increasing influence of Westernisation in the country.
- Juche Tower 主體思想塔, learn about the country's governing idea and its survival ideology.
- Extended Ride in Pyongyang Metro 平壤地鐵, the best opportunity to mingle and mix with the local Pyongyang urban dwellers and to observe the most authentic lives of the Korean.
- Arch of Triumph 凱旋門, the architecture built to glorify the greatness of Kim Il Sung, which commemorates the Korean resistance to Japan from 1925 to 1945.
- Exclusive visit to a local department store 光復百貨公司, a rare and exclusive chance to witness Pyongyang's most popular department store that is rarely attended by foreign visitors. We will learn more about how market has started to have an impact on people's lives, the dual economic structure and the return of capitalism in a socialist society. You will be able to exchange and use North Korea Won for shopping.
- Overnight at Yanggakdo Hotel in Pyongyang 平壤羊角島酒店
Day 5: 7 April 2019 (Sunday)
| Pyongyang > Dandong > Shenyang : End of Programme|
- Visit Kim Il Sung Square 金日成廣場, where one of the largest military parades in the world is held, to have a glimpse of the latest development in Pyongyang.
- Train from Pyongyang to Dandong
- Arrival at Dandong in the evening
- High speed train from Dandong to Shenyang
- Discussion session on current issues related to North Korea, facilitated by our North Korean expert:
We will reflect on the North Korean society under the leadership of Kim Jong Un (also called the Byungjin era 並進時代, the emphasis on both military advancement and economic development). We will also discuss the latest development on the Korean Peninsula, after a historical summit was held between Kim and Trump, and a significant military agreement was signed between the South and the North last year.
- End of programme
- Dismiss at 22:00 at Vienna International Hotel in Shenyang (overnight accommodation is included)

*Note 1: Walk In Hong Kong (License No.: 353919) is the responsible tour operator of this programme.
*Note 2: South Korean, Japan and US Passport Holders are not allowed to join the trip.

- Your China visa of multiple/double entry**
- Transportation from Hong Kong (or your place of origin) to Shenyang, China***

*An appropriate and adequate travel insurance is a condition of travelling to the DPRK.
**For some passport holders who need to acquire a visa to enter China, you are reminded to secure a proper visa for double entry, as we will go in and out of China twice.
***Our programme starts and ends at Shenyang. You are free to arrange your own flights/trains to Shenyang.
