Al Cheit - For Our Mistakes - 2023 | 5784
Making mistakes is a big part of being human, and one of our best ways to learn and grow.

On Yom Kippur, we move toward healing and repair by thinking about the things we have done that have caused harm, and about the things we wish we’d done but didn’t do, that have caused harm. We also think about how to repair the harm we've caused. The harm might be to ourselves, to people close to us, to our communities, to other living creatures and to the earth, and to our relationship with G-d. You may want to consider each of these five categories separately (self, close relationships, community, earth, G-d).

By thinking about these things, and noticing them, we take the first step toward healing relationships and making better choices. We help ourselves to remember how we want to be, and who we want to be.

By sharing these things with our community, we help each other.
We say things that may be true for other people too, but that they may not have noticed yet.
We also get to hear things from other people that can help us.
On Yom Kippur, we do this as a community, each of us learning from the mistakes that all of us make.

For all these things, we ask for forgiveness—from those we have harmed, from ourselves, and from G-d .
