Transforming Society Through Gastronomy
The Basque Culinary Center will hold the VIII annual meeting of its international council together with chef Massimo Bottura in his hometown of Modena – the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. On July 24 th, chefs, artists, writers, filmakers and scientists will take part on a symposium about the power of ideas, the strength of culture, the impact of science, the influence of art, and the new ways of connecting with people through gastronomy.
Renowned chefs such as Michael Bras (France), Joan Roca (Spain), Andoni Luis Aduriz (Spain), Gastón Acurio (Peru), Dominique Crenn (USA), and Yoshihiro Narisawa (Japan) will join experts from diverse disciplines to address the way gastronomy has become a social movement as part of an event where the winner of the Basque Culinary World Prize will be announced– an award created by the Basque Government for chefs transforming society through gastronomy.
Among the speakers will be the French artist JR, founder of a global participatory art project, the Inside Out Project, which transforms stories of personal identity into public works of art; David Gelb, the American director of Chef’s Table, a celebrated Netflix series about the culinary arts; American journalist and editor Ruth Reichl; Ilse Crawford, the British designer and creative director of Studio Ilse; and Bee Wilson, a British food historian.
